Which cars come staggered from the factory?
We checked every platform in our hand-verified fitment database. 89% ship staggered from the factory on at least one trim — and the ones that don’t aren’t the ones you’d guess. Power isn’t what decides it.
Power doesn’t decide stagger — chassis philosophy does
The instinct is “more power → wider rear tires.” The data says otherwise. The two square-only holdouts here are American muscle — the Dodge Charger and Challenger — which stay square even on the widebody 305/35R20 setup, all four corners. Meanwhile a 382-hp Supra ships staggered.
Why: staggered fitment buys rear traction and planted stance, but it ends tire rotation and can dial in understeer. Manufacturers chasing balance and rotatability (and drag-strip square-setup traction) keep muscle cars square on purpose; mid-engine and European sports cars lean staggered for grip and the look. It’s a design choice, not a horsepower threshold.

Max hp is the highest factory output recorded in our OE fitment data for each platform (not always the top halo trim). “Rear +Xmm” is the widest factory rear-vs-front tire-width gap. “Mixed Ø” means the front and rear run different wheel diameters by design (e.g. 19″ front / 20″ rear), calibrated at the factory.
